There are quite a number of National food and drink awareness days throughout May/June – great opportunities to promote product lines, sell a little extra, and support UK producers in the process – so long as you’re aware of them in the first place.
English Wine Week is just days away, and over the week vineyards and outlets across the country will be highlighting the English wines they offer, and in many cases, give customers an opportunity to taste test and get to know their English wines a bit better.
If you’re thinking of getting involved there’s still time. Check the English Wine Producers website for events listings in your area, remembering that if you’re planning something a little more ambitious or holding a specific event, the website will feature and list your event for free. Genius! But for those looking for something a little simpler, we’ve compiled a collection of our finest ‘add-on’ wine accessories to help you make the most of instant impulse purchases in-store.
Place wine journals, cooler bags, Union Jack bottle bags or corkscrews by the till, or create an in-store hotspot or window display featuring your finest English plonk. Go the whole hog and pick up some ISO wine tasting glasses and let them try before they buy. It doesn’t have to be a complicated process, but doing so will help you capture new footfall and inspire your regulars.
Be sure to send in any pictures of your displays – we need inspiring too! And we’ll get them up on our social media sites.
In the run up to English Wine Week, we asked our in-house wine connoisseur WBC Director Andrew Wilson what English plonk he’s been drinking recently. Here is his top 3.
1. Jenkyn Place Sparkling Wine
I actually served this English Sparkling Wine to some New Zealand friends at the weekend and they all thought it was delicious so I give it a 5 out 5 from them.
2. Sharpham Estate
I’m a big fan of Sharpham Estate for their reds and sparkling wines but also their delicious cheeses, both of which you can shop for online!
3. Ridgeview, Chapel Down and Camel Valley
I also have a ready supply of these great wines, we really are lucky in the UK to have some great producers, the sparkling wines being particularly successful. Hope you all get behind English Wine Week.
